Tuesday, October 23, 2007 – Jefferson Valley, New York.

Day 201: We are up at 5:30 and when we go downstairs, Lisa has a hearty breakfast ready for us. We talk a lot more while we re-fuel and eventually we leave with hugs all around. We drive into Peekskill and sort out the route around the latest bridge with no shoulders. Bob gets to his last finish point and starts walking at 8:00. It is overcast, hazy and warm. Later, we stop for bathrooms and coffee at La Cabana restaurant where our server, Tatiana, insists the coffee is her treat.

We make our way through town and I drive to Croton-on-Hudson where I wait at Old Post Rd. for Bob. He leaves the highway here and climbs up towards the Croton Reservoir. I go ahead to find the crossing. It is a single lane bridge but it is open for cars as well as foot traffic. I try to call Bob but there is no cell coverage.

We have lunch in the reservoir park. It is beautiful and there are no other people this late in the season. The leaves are really blowing off the trees today. Bob’s knee is sore from all this climbing up and down. I drive ahead on the road and Bob uses the OCA trail (Old Croton Aqueduct). It starts and stops but it is a nice break from walking on the shoulder of the busy highway.

Late in the afternoon we get word that there is no billet available for tonight. Bob calls Jim and Lisa and they say they would be happy to have us stay another night and they will make us dinner as well. I drive down Old Post Road to New Broadway. I travel through Tarrytown, past the Tappen Zie Bridge (a toll bridge) across the Hudson River. The 40 km mark is opposite Kraft Foods. This 40 km is very approximate. Bob may have walked further on the trails. I have had to do some estimates. But it is 5:45 and Bob is tired. It has been a long day.

We take the Taconic State Freeway to Jefferson Valley. It was very kind of Lisa and Jim to have us back. We get to the house at 6:50 and Lisa is cooking. We have quick showers and I do a load of laundry. Dinner is wonderful and after hugs at 10:00, we go to bed.
