Day 197: We wake up shortly after 5:10. Today is our 33rd anniversary. Bob is having various aches and pains. He has not been taking his regular rest days and it is starting to take its toll. Carol is up and has coffee made. We join her and then we go out in the dark. It is really warm and humid. The forecast is for rain and high winds today. We drive across the bridge and straight to our start. Bob starts walking in the dim light at 7:15. He wears his yellow jacket to be seen. We stop at Castleton-On-Hudson for a coffee. There is a sailboat motoring down the Hudson River. The road hugs the river here. It is very narrow with little shoulder. Bob often steps off for cars to go by. There are few places for me to pull off so the photos I take are ones of convenience.
We pass through Stuyvesant with its memorial plaques to Henry Hudson. The humidity is stifling. Bob’s feet feel really hot today. We carry on down the narrow twisty road. It is hilly but not too steep. We are on the opposite bank to the Catskill Mountains. I make sandwiches and we stop for lunch at 25.3 km in Newton Hook. He leaves and continues through the junction of Hwy 9 and 9J. There is still the threat of rain and there is more traffic. The clouds move and change quickly and the leaves are really blowing.
I drive into the town of Hudson. There is a fine mist but it is over before it really starts. I stop at 39.5 km. We need to make a decision whether to follow Hwy 9 or 9G from here. When Bob arrives at 2:40, his knee is sore and he decides to call it a day.
We drive back to Albany and Carol is making dinner. She is surprised we did not get wet. Bob does a podcast with Alan before dinner and then we eat dinner with Carol and I do one load of laundry. Carol has a meeting after dinner but Don comes over and we have a really nice talk this evening. After he leaves we shower and get ready to leave tomorrow. Tonight is our last night here.
Bob has a call to set up a meeting next week with a representative of the United Nations with regard to Family. We go to bed at 8:30. During the night there is a heavy rainstorm with thunder and lightning. But it is over before we get up.
