17th Oct, 2007

Monday, October 15, 2007 – Saratoga Springs, New York.

Day 193: We wake up late – at 6:30 and have showers. We drop off the key, have some breakfast and drive back to our start. Bob starts walking at 8:30. We reach the town of Lake George – home to every motel chain and many independents. Most are closed for the season. At 17 km we finally leave Adirondack State Park. We have lunch at 24km and Bob walks on. In Glens Falls we cross the Hudson River for the first time. Bob is taking his time through downtown, looking at the architecture – huge old frame houses. He makes a comment about liking New York State. It is so clean.

I stop and wait at a garden centre. There are tons of purple and yellow mums and orange and white pumpkins. It is a very pretty display. When Bob passes 36 km he is moving faster. He wants to finish the last 4 km. I go to 40.2 km and Bob arrives at 4:45. It has been a long day. We drive to Saratoga Springs, a town of Spas and horse racing. We arrive at the Holiday where Cindy, the manager has given us a room for two nights. We check in and take our things upstairs. It is a lovely room with microwave and fridge as well as wireless internet.

We go out for dinner and discover that Saratoga Springs also lays claim to being the home of the potato chip. Back at the hotel, I type the blog, we shower and watch TV. There is a coffee pot for the morning and we sleep well.
