Day 191: We get up at 5:50 and leave shortly. We are the first ones out and we unlock the heavy front door. Bob has to scrape the ice off the car windows. It is cold, clear and dark. We get coffee and doughnuts at a gas station and Bob starts walking at 7:20. The terrain here is short, sharp hills. The road twists and turns and the shoulders are extra narrow. We heard a shot as we left the Inn and I hear more as I turn off the car. It is hunting season.
Bob passes 5 km at 8:15. He pantomimes clutching his chest and collapsing. I’m sure it was a tough climb. I move forward to 11.5 km, just past the turnoff to a bridge to Vermont. We have coffee in the car at 17 km. Bob says the local 4 x 4’s pass him at 60 to 65 mph. So he often steps off the road and waits. I catch up on blogs in the car. We are passing through an area of lots of farm stands. People hear really take Halloween seriously. They decorate their houses and put up lights.
We have lunch at McDonalds at almost 1:00. Bob continues walking and I drive through Ticonderoga – a relatively small town with a big history. I stop just inside the town limits of Hague at 40.1 km. Bob arrives at 3:10. We have been driving along the edge of Lake George today. We drive back to the inn in Port Henry. We go up to our room and shower and I make dinner from our grocery supplies. We have cheese, apple wedges, and egg salad sandwiches. Afterwards, I type up blog pages, and Bob falls asleep. We both go to bed at 9:30 and sleep well.
