Wednesday, October 10, 2007 – Plattsburgh, New York.

Day 188: We are up at 5:15, have showers and pack up everything. We have breakfast and stop to talk to Scott in the office. We will be walking through Plattsburg area for one more day and he agrees to give us our room for another night. It is very generous of him. We drive north on Hwy 9 to the border to our start point. We reach the spot where Bob finished his 48 km walk on Monday, and Bob starts walking at 8:10. He goes at a fairly casual pace to start.

I go forward in small steps. It is not always easy to find a place to pull over. The shoulders are very narrow and road-side parking is very limited. I hear on the news that there could be snow showers on Friday evening. Also that cell service can be spotty and sometimes non-existent.

There are some truly old, historic buildings and definite architectural styles. When Bob gets to 21 km, he stops for juice and fruit. Ay 25 km there is an information plaque about a house that was fired on by British troops in 1814 on their way to Plattsburgh. The area is full of this type of history. We reach the city of Plattsburgh at 32.5 km. Temperatures are in the 60’s and it is sunny. As we walk through the city we see some truly phenomenal colonial houses – many currently occupied by modern families who keep them in their original appearance. The old houses are along Lake Champlain. We are staying on the west side of the lake – in New York State. We will not be traveling in Vermont as we had previously thought we might.

Bob arrives at 40.1 km at 3:45. We drive back into the city and back to our suite. Bob has a shower and I put on a load of laundry. I make sandwiches for dinner and extra ones for lunch tomorrow and put them in the fridge. We eat dinner, watch some TV and go to bed at 9:30. We both sleep well.
