Day 181: We are up at 5:30 and get packed. It is still dark when we drive to the main house for breakfast. We thank Carole and we are on the road by 7:00. Bob is walking on Hwy 17 east at 7:20. It is overcast and breezy today and there is a 30 percent chance of rain. We stop for lunch at the first Hawkesbury exit at 12:00. At 12:45 we hear a honk. There is an OPP car right behind us. Bob walks back to talk to the driver. He saw our BC plates and wondered if we were having car trouble. Bob gives him a card for the website and he expresses support for the cause.
After lunch, I drive through Hawkesbury to confirm there is a bridge with a sidewalk that Bob can cross to get to Grenville, Quebec. I take his photo crossing the Long Sault Bridge to Quebec. My next move is to pick up a map of Montreal at a gas station. We head towards Montreal on Quebec Hwy 148 and Bob arrives at 40.1 km at 3:30. We drive to Lachute and find our billet for the night at the Welden Motel. We check in and we have a small suite with a kitchen area as well. We meet Linda, our contact here as well as Claude, the owner.
He tells us this is the warmest fall he can remember in this area.
Back in our room, I make dinner from our supplies as well as lunches for the cooler for tomorrow. There is no internet, but I download the camera onto the computer. We watch TV for a little while, but we are tired. After our showers we are in bed before 8:30.
